The Polytechnic was founded by Sahyadri Education Trust in 1985 by the magnificence and single minded devotion of foresighted and noble minded,ex-director of Board of technical education Sri M.R.D. Gowda in view of bringing the technical education to the rural areas under the Chairmainship of Sri.D.B.Chandre Gowda ,Member of Parliment .
The immediate past president Sri. Aroor Ramesh Rao a popular industrialist, Educationist and philanthropist took over the mantle of management of the SPT from 1996 onwards. Under his shrewed guidance and able administration the faculty, infrastructure and atmosphere of the Institution improved to its Present Position of recognition not only in rural Malnad but throughout this region.

With the liberalization policy of the Govt.of India ensuring the investments on the construction industry ,expansion of residential flats has gained high momentum ,the real estate business has started booming up and the enginners,especially practically trained diploma holders have very opportunities to be employed everywhere in the country .That too, the diploma engineers with computer knowledge are preferred especially by private entrepreneurs.
